About Greater Becoming
Twelve years ago, I woke one morning with a very clear instruction:
Start a blog. Call it Greater Becoming.
It was unusual enough that I listened. I began writing—and almost immediately took it all down. Writing publicly felt far too vulnerable, and I couldn't shake the question: Who am I to say any of this?
So Greater Becoming went quiet.
The years that followed were spent raising and homeschooling my boys, participating in our homeschool community, journaling, praying, meditating, healing, and studying. I read widely and wandered well outside conventional paths, particularly into spiritual and esoteric traditions, always looking for something deeper than the answers I seemed to find in the usual places.
And all the while, I was trying to raise two human beings.
My husband and I wanted our boys to grow into good, thoughtful, capable people—to know themselves, develop character, recognize what matters, and make a life rather than simply inherit one. But I often found myself wondering where the resources were for that.
There was no manual for life. And if we weren't deliberate about what was shaping us, something else surely would be.
So we did the best we could. We tried to live what we believed. We pointed toward what seemed true, good, and beautiful. And I kept reading, questioning, learning, and becoming alongside them.
A year or two ago, during a completely unrelated conversation, someone who knew nothing about that long-ago morning told me she kept seeing a writing quill around my future.
I remembered Greater Becoming.
Perhaps I wasn't supposed to have authority twelve years ago. Perhaps I was supposed to live awhile.
Greater Becoming is where I'm gathering what I found along the way.
It is an exploration of living more intentionally: of education, character, spiritual life, family, and the deeper resources that can help us become more deliberate about the lives we are creating.
I am still a student of all of it.
And perhaps that is the point.
“Man is not a being who stands still, he is a being in the process of becoming.”
